There's a reason it's out of print.....
This is a decent game, though I can't believe people are trying to sell this for the amount they are. Let's list the good point... notice, singular, not plural.
1) It's got Monopoly, Boggle, battleship, and Yahtzee....
Now for the bad:
1) No save feature
2) limited gameplay without two copies of the game for multiplayer
3) Boggle is missing so many words that it's overly frustrating to play
4) Monopoly is near impossible to play due to the lack of a save feature
5) It's out of print, so the real price of $20 which nearly makes it worth getting is gone.
Bottom line is, don't waste your money and spend over the original $20 that this game cost. It's simply not worth the time or money to get a decent $20 title. Wait till either another printing of the game, or a better version is released.
Hope this helps some of you who think this must be the greatest game out there.
What you would expect, but has flaws
This aptly if not creatively titled game is what you would epxect. It gives you the chance to play these four games on the go. Two of the games benefit from the DS's extra touch screen--Boggle and Battleship. Overall, I've enjoyed playing these games, but I find the single player challange of Battleship and Yahtzee to be really shallow. And the two games I play the most--Monopoly and Boggle have issues. Monopoly plays great when it works, but it freezes up a lot. I've learned to save frequently. Boggle doesn't freeze, but its internal dictionary has been overly censored. There are many words that I do not consider vulgar that are not counted as words. I would still recommoned this collection if you want to play these games on the go, but I wouldn't pay full price for the collection. You can find this game used for $10 less.
GOOD GAME BUT MISSES A FEW COMPONENTS
We picked this up last night hoping to lay in bed and play boggle to our hearts were content via the one card wireless option. Out of the 4 games, you can only play Battleship and Boggle wirelessly with one card. Boggle will only play for one round and then you have to shut down the 2nd DS completely, power back up and redownload the software if you want to play again. Even when playing in "hot seat" mode with multiple players on one DS, it does not play until a point total. It only plays one round.
The other 3 games all play very nicely and provides much entertainment. However if you are thinking of only picking up one cart for 2 DS's, you might want to think again!

Sure, there are the prodigies out there, but not everybody can stand those boring and tough music lessons, and shaking a plastic guitar in a rhythm-based videogame is fun but it`s just not the same. Music brings a serious music learning method to DS, developed by Shiro Tsuji, a famous Japanese music teacher. Learning music at any age is now possible with just a Nintendo DS. Features: |
AWESOME CASE
I have purchased so many DS game holders but this one is the best you will ever find as it is sturdy for the games and holds over 50 games and so easy to travel with. I LOVE IT!!! You will not regret buying this.
Fine for storing games, but useless for travel
This case is very cute, it seems well made, and I like that it holds so many games, but it's far too big to actually carry around anyplace. First off, it's about the size of a lunch box (and at least as big as my Wii case, possibly slightly bigger), which sort of defeats the point of a portable game system. It barely leaves space in my backpack for my laptop, a book or two, and a few other miscellaneous items (iPod, pencil case, etc.), but carrying it separately is a problem for air travel were it would count as a carry on bag. Since the case definitely won't fit in a purse, or a backpack full of school books, I still have a smaller case that I use when I'm going someplace for a few hours and want to take my DS but don't need many games, and even when I travel, I take the smaller case with me to use during the trip. Furthermore, the interior of the case that holds the DS is far too big for my DS lite (and I believe for the slightly larger DS and DSi as well), such that even with the movable dividers, it's impossible to secure the DS in any way that it won't slight around significantly in the case. I've found that my smaller DS case fits easily inside this one, and not only can I leave the DS in that case to put it in this one, there's enough even room for the DS and power cord next to the smaller case. Overall, as much as I like this case aesthetically, the only practical use I've found for it is to store DS games, instruction booklets, and whatever random stuff happens to land in it in my electronics drawer, and even there it's constantly in the way. I think though that it could work really well for something closer to its size (maybe a portable DVD player or netbook), and since the game organizer portion is removable, that could be used separately from the rest of the case.

Je parle français!
I moved to a French speaking part of Europe a few months ago and have been determined to learn French ever since. I enrolled in a university level course, hired a tutor, and try to practice at my local pub as much as possible.
I was doing "OK" but then I heard about this title. I ordered it from Amazon and I have to say I am IMPRESSED! This is exactly the type of study program I needed. Unlike listening to straight audio (Berlitz Rush Hour French) the DS makes the process interactive. You get ranked (from enfant on up) based on your completion of the levels. The title has an excellent recording feature to let you record a word or phrase and then either listen to it alone, or play it back in unison with the French audio.
The many games you must play to master words to unlock the levels are challenging, somewhat addictive, but fun. I try and play all of them on the DIFFICULT level as they make me work harder.
But, it's not perfect:
One glaring thing missing is they do not list the masculine or feminine identifiers for the verbs. That would have made this a perfect tool because the M Vs. F tense is still a killer for me as I try to weave sentences together.
Also, they make a very strange error in that "Tu" or informal version of "You" is listed as "Formal" and the formal version "Vous" is listed as "Informal." That's a very blatant error.
The dictionary is very limtied. For example, while it has the word for "puppy" there is no word for "dog." It also does not provide definitions, so you'll need a dictionary to ascertain the exact meaning of a word because as in English, a single word can have many different meanings.
The audio and visual "phrase book" for social situations and traveling is probably worth the price of the game alone. It came in very hand on a recent trip outside Paris.
I play this every morning for about between 10 - 15 minutes. It also helps pass time when I have to wait someplace, e.g., barber shop, car dealership, etc. My vocabulary is now over 500 words and even my French tutor (a very picky and precise Parisian) started recommending it to her other students.
No matter what your level, from don't-have-a-clue-about-French to advanced level people who want to brush up on vocabulary, this title will be a useful training tool and a quality way to practice and brush up on existing French skills.
I have to give UBI Soft and Nintendo credit for scoring another way to attract adults to the DS. Unlike a bulky laptop I can play this thing anywhere and that's what makes it so appealing. It really is a quality and inexpensive learning tool, but could be even better with a little tweaking in (hopefully) newer releases.
My rating for this should be four and not five stars.
Excellent aide in learning a language!
Ubisoft did a wonderful job with this game; it's a very well done learning tool. I do notice, however, that the instructor (a rather comely woman!!) does speak exceptionally fast and this may not be the case for all dialects of french. Additionally, there are other dialects of french (case in point, my in-laws are french and sometimes use different words or phrases than are taught here).
Nevertheless, activities that assit with spelling, sentence building and conjugations are an invaluable addition. Having a conjugation chart is helpful and players can find themselves using the charts initially and then replaying the game without the chart. This is where real learning takes place. TRES BIEN!!
The game is also entertaining. What is nice is that being "conversational", this reivewer did not start with lesson one. Upon commencing, the game gives a "pretest"; based on those results, the player will start at a level that is right for them. For example, I started around lesson 18. It's worth mentioning, however, that one can go back to the initial lessons and it is good to do so for review.
For the price, it's a very good way to either learn a language at least conversationally and/or even sharpen language skills for those who are conversational or for those who took the language in school in years past. The reference section is very helpful for looking up both words and phrases.
EXCELLENT tool for the cost!!
Wonderfully educational & entertaining at the same time!!
This is an absolutely wonderful title in the DS line up. I have been wanting to learn French for years, & finally I have a way to do it easily. I've used this multiple times now & it is very addicting & leaves me with a feeling that I've really learned something. I would DEFINITELY recommend this title.
